Spiriva Capsules

I was just thinking about a problem I have had with Spiriva Capsules on more than one occasion and wanted to share it with all of you and would also like to know if anyone else has had this problem.
I have encountered empty capsules in my prescription. When I punctured the capsule and tried to inhale the powder, there was nothing there, you could not hear anything...usually the capsule vibrates when you inhale the powder, and you know when the capsule is empty because you do not hear the sound.
I called Boehringer Ingelheim to complain and their response was that "they could not do anything as I was the only person who has complained." Now I know for a fact that there are others who have had the same problem with the capsules. They also complained to B/I and received no satisfaction.
Please respond if you've also had the same problem!! I'm curious to know how many this has happened to.

Re; empty capsules, only this week did I have one.The first since I have been using `Spiriva` which is about 12 months,I didn't use another as I wasn't sure if it was just a silent one;so I missed out one day!

RE: Spriva(empty caps) try to check the caps by giving a little squeeze before the puncture. That way if you fing empty ones you will have viable evidence. Try it. Hope it works for you.
My husband had 3 empty capsules in one box and 1 in another!!
His Doctor said she has been hearing this a lot more lately!
I have not experienced a "silent" capsule, but have had several that were broken in the sealed envelope and several that the Handihaler chopped off the bottom and would not vibrate.
Another question...what happens to the areas of the capsule that are punctured open? I do not see them on the screen and do not find them inside the capsule. I hope we are not inhaling them.
I have also had empty capsules and as expensive as they are, that hurts! I did find a web site that sells just the capsules- 180 caps, 18mcg for $139.00 from the Swill Pharmacy. Seeing as I am in the "GAP" with my medicare, I am going to order from them. Seems such a waist to keep getting the handihalers with every 30 capsules when you can disinfect them and use them over again. Check it out!
